La Clausura Sconfinata (The Cloister Without Walls)

Setting Isadora Duncan movement within two baroque cloisters in Narni, Italy, project director Artmonk Julia Pond juxtaposes the freedom and sensuality of Duncan-inspired dance with the restrictions inherent in convent architecture and baroque music, highlighting the tensions between the two ideals. The counterpoint created by the contrast between sometimes ecstatic, sometimes tragic choreography of Duncan and the music and surroundings that, however beautiful themselves, grew out of the repression of women, offers a new way to see them both.
