1/4/11 San Francisco Artmonks meetup
This Tuesday the San Francisco Artmonks will convene at the Berkeley home of two artmonks, composers Tom Bickley and Nancy Beckman.
Tom & Nancy came to the Art Monastery in Labro, Italy last spring as artmonks-in-residence, and are now connecting with other Bay Area artmonks to develop a local community of contemplative creatives. They have generously offered us their space from 6-8:30pm on January 4th.
We will be joined by Art Monastery Project co-founders Betsy McCall and Christopher Fülling.
This meeting is the first formal gathering of the San Francisco Artmonks, and we plan to use the time to get a sense of just what being an “Artmonk” means to each of us and discuss how we can bring some of the magic of the Art Monastery Project back to its Bay Area roots.
Here’s a rough agenda:
- Welcome (30 minutes)
- Intro to the Art Monastery Project (20 Minutes)
- Group vision exercise (20 minutes)
- Break (10 minutes)
- Brainstorming (50 minutes): What is an “Artmonk”? How might a local Artmonks Chapter serve the needs of Artmonks?
- Chant (20 minutes): Excerpts from a Gregorian Chant compline ritual.
We will start cleaning up no later than 8:30pm (some artmonks have to get up early on Wednesday to head south for the Artmonk Retreat).
There will be Lauro (Artmonk-made Bay Leaf Liqueur) for sampling and for sale, as well as light snacks. We encourage you to bring a sack dinner.
We look forward to seeing you there!
