Old Friend Moon

Recall the barking dog hidden in summer

& the dogged delicacy of cabbage moths

tilting flamenco above traffic in afternoon sun

All the sentience not our own, tended or wild,

that permeate the city of our suspicious species

ants, pollen, sparrows, cactus, grass

Bring to the fore the alien imaginarium

who call the willow or palm or climbing vine home

here in the everyday is transcendent wisdom:

that the whole goes dancing on despite

Feel one inbreath fresh-born

redolent with what passionate life surrounds

as an old friend alive in your hearth, your belly

A mountain appears to float in the morning

blue & green with the light’s easy bending

Recall the smile of any shadowed earthy thing

as it enters, then becomes you

the whole point of attention is to love
