Space, Art, and Music: Ideal Conditions for “Arte & Musica”
We’re so looking forward to “Arte & Musica,” our fundraiser/concert that’s happening in the Diego Rivera Gallery in SF on October 11th. In terms of the space, the music, and the art we’ll be inundated in, we couldn’t have asked for a better context for our event.
The building at 800 Chestnut that houses the San Francisco Art Institute (where I’m an MFA candidate, and where our ED Betsy McCall got her MFA) is modeled after a monastery, and the cloister is one of my favorite spots in San Francisco. The Diego Rivera Gallery at SFAI is an immense, acoustically-live space, ideal for our musical guests soprano Phoebe J. Rosquist and multi-instrumentalist eO, who in addition to performing will together lead a participatory exercise based on Balinese Kecak.
Serendipitously, our event is taking place in the midst of an exhibition in the Diego called The Transcendent, a “re-imaging of the sublime realm” featuring works by Chandra Berg, Mary Ma, and Ana Paula Fonseca, which opens on Tuesday the 9th.
And we’ve compiled some amazing art for our silent auction, with donations from the following artists:
- ap-art-ment (Cathy Fairbanks and Laura Boles Faw)
- Mel Prest
- Pamela Belknap
- Michele Foyer
- Sarah Klein
- Gail Dawson
- Jesse Houlding
- Jamie Brunson
- Katrina Umber
- Carrie Cook
- Katie McCall
- Jack Leamy
- David Zuttermeister
- Ian Macdonald
- Sarah Frazier
- Justin Hoover
- Deborah Stenberg-Service
- Claire Jackel
- Nancy de Y. Elkus
- Matthew Marchand
Here’s just a sampling of the art that will be auctioned at our event:
I hope to see you there!
